Bergen

This exhibition showcases an assortment of drawings, photographs, and watercolours inspired by the distinctive motifs of Bergen. The city boasts a unique architectural charm, particularly evident in structures dating back to the XV-XVIII century. What captivates me is the seamless integration of this historical architecture with the natural surroundings of Bergen.

Fascinated by the visual interplay, I often capture reflections in water through my photography. These images open up avenues for exploring new textures, unique lighting effects, and the distortion of objects, lending a painterly quality to the overall expression. I appreciate photography for its ability to immortalize fleeting moments.

As you walk along, a captivating scene catches your eye, and with a simple click, that moment is preserved indefinitely, frozen in an alternate dimension. It becomes a unique fusion of your perspective and the surrounding reality, visible only to you. Nature, especially, offers an ever-changing canvas, the light transforms quickly and gentle breeze changes water's texture. Photography becomes a means of documenting a brief intersection of time, space, and your mental state. Each photograph is a testament to the specific moment you or I experienced, as a different mindset would undoubtedly result in a distinct image.

On the other hand, as a visual artist, I enjoy drawing with different media. Hand drawing with pen or charcoal provides a liberating outlet for expressing emotions through lines. The intensity of pressure and the speed of hand movements manifest visibly in the drawings. Watercolours, in contrast, offer a unique opportunity to play with water and pigment, introducing an element of unpredictability into the artistic process. Unlike the controlled nature of pen or charcoal, watercolours have a life of their own, evolving in ways beyond the artist's complete command. The colour intensity fluctuates from the wet application to the dry stage, introducing an ever-present element of surprise into the creative journey.
