Abstract paintings
These are new works where I am exploring colours and shapes of thoughts. Where do thoughts come from? Where do they go once they walked through your mind? As a result I created series of abstract painting, trying to visualise this flux of non material movement. The process of painting balances between my idea of composition, and free interactions between materials in the ending stage. This painting process is intuitive and often “in the zone”. I plan the composition of colours, and then I add water and antibacterial on the top and let the paint move on its own. When the painting is dry, I analyse the painting and “feel it” if I am satisfied with it, or if it still does need more improvement.
What I want to create with these paintings is a place to go to, when you want to be with yourself. A place to escape from painful reality. A safe place, dream like, awaking imagination. Place to reset your mind, and relax by wandering into colours and shapes.
My inspiration comes from light that is so special here in Norway (especially northern Norway). Another part of my inspiration comes from flowers and the intensity of their colours. The third inspiration source is water and how its colour is changing depending on the daylight.
Abstract painting for many may seem as simple, unplanned way of putting colours on canvas or paper. But this is not true. There is composition, proportions, analyzing of how much to add or not. And for me it is important not to fell into “kitsch trap”- “abstract kitsch” that is in overwhelming amount on social media.
Abstract painting in many ways is about feeling, either you feel it, either it speaks to you, or not.
“Pictures and objects that entice your senses and open your mind to a world of wonder. You can feel the colours and loose yourself in the compositions”.V. De Caro
